AI founders’ dire predictions are probably sincere, but I think they miss something fundamental. “Rogue AI” sounds scary, but it is less of a threat than AI is in the hands of malicious people. Today, a disaffected individual, criminal organization or hostile government can wield cyber capabilities that, until recently, required teams of highly trained experts. Let’s stop pretending we can solve this by putting AI development on pause.
